We are planning an exciting ghost adventures lock in event at haunted Ashmore Estates mansion on Saturday September 10, 2011. This will be an alll night investigation. The price is $100.00, but we require a $50.00 deposit by Sunday July 31 to reserve your spot. The 2nd $50.00 payment is due by September 1. We will contact you near that time to complete your transaction.
Ashmore Estates is a historic building outside of Ashmore, Illinois, United States.
This former almshouse, once part of the Coles County Poor Farm, was built in 1916 and operated until 1959, when it was purchased by Ashmore Estates, Inc. for use as a private psychiatric care facility. Ashmore Estates closed in 1987 and stood abandoned until 2006, when it was opened as a commercial haunted house. Local historian and author Michael Kleen presented a paper on the history of Ashmore Estates and the Coles County Poor Farm at the 2010 Conference on Illinois History in Springfield.
Ashmore Estates has long been known as a haunted building. The building was for 20 years off-limits to the general public. Nestled in the small town of Ashmore in Central Illinois, Ashmore Estates has been seemingly abandoned for years. The Almshouse shares tales of their former residents who refuse to leave, keeping a watchful eye over the owners and tracking those who dare to venture in!
This 3 floor massive building built in 1916 was established on the County Poor Farm, to help those who had little or nothing. Pictures from the cemetery are available here. Poor farm residents resided there until 1956 when the building was turned into a house for the mentally disabled.
When it finally closed its doors for good in 1987,
some restless spirits chose to stay behind forever calling the estates their home. These apparitions have been seen walking through the building and captured on tape…allowing a chosen few a glimpse into their past!!! As you open your ears and listen…..these walls can talk!
